The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the ministers of infrastructure of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania kick-starts the railway project between the three countries.

This is a timely venture given what the country has made priority –a private sector driven economy.

With the railway line, Rwanda’s geographic disadvantage of being land locked will by a reasonable measure be checked because it will provide a direct link to the port of Dar es Salaam.

The recent fuel shortages the country, just like its regional counterparts experienced is one of the many reminders that the country needs a direct link to the coast, which will come in handy after the completion of the line.

Rwanda will also be a major station for the railway as it will be where the train from Tanzania en route Burundi will pass.

This means major commercial activities will be established at the turning point.

Rwandans must collaborate in seeing through this valuable enterprise especially when it comes to expropriating those who will be found in the way of the line.

They should understand that it is to their own benefit.
