President Paul Kagame has called on top government leaders to outline strategies that will drive Rwanda’s transformation agenda and to put the interests of citizens first.
The head of state said this while officiating at the swearing-in ceremony of new cabinet members and other senior government officials, at the Parliamentary Building in Kimihurura, yesterday.
"Building the country, achieving our goals of socio-economic transformation and improving the lives of our citizens is an every-day task. It requires unwavering commitment and innovation. This is what we expect from the new leaders,” said Kagame, who made changes to his cabinet and some top government positions on Thursday.
"Whatever course you take must be backed with concrete action to bring about transformation for our country and that of Rwandans,” Kagame added.
Ministers that were sworn in include, Dr Richard Sezibera, the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Relations; Prof. Anastase Shyaka, Minister for Local Government; Paula Ingabire, the Minister for ICT and Innovation; Soraya Hakuziyaremye, Minister for Trade and Industry; Maj. Gen. Albert Murasira, Minister for Defence; and Solina Nyirahabimana, Minister of Gender and Family Promotion.
"We have to keep in mind that we are working to better the lives of our citizens, not our own,” Kagame reminded leaders.
Others top government leaders that were sworn in include DCG Dan Munyuza, the new Inspector General of Police, and his deputy CP Félix Namuhoranye who is in charge of operations.
The Head of State also urged the leaders to work hard, think big and work together with their respective teams and peers in order to lead the country to its vision.
Mushikiwabo hailed
President Kagame also took time to commend the outgoing Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo for a job well-done while serving the country.
"On a special note, I wish to thank Madame Louise Mushikiwabo for the good work she did for the country and we congratulate her for her election at the helm of Francophonie. We wish you success,” Kagame said.
Kagame also thanked former members of cabinet for their service to the nation and incoming members for accepting to assume new responsibilities.
