MUHANGA — At least 200 motorbike operators in the Muhanga district have received new uniforms as a form of support by CORAR Insurance Company.

The uniforms worth Rwf.2.4m support was handed over last Thursday, at the cultural centre, in  a ceremony attended by area traffic police officials.

"These uniforms were requested by members of association of Motorbike operators in Muhanga (COOTRAVEMOMU) and thus CORAR insurance company come forward with the support,” said Etienne Musonera, a COOTRAVEMOMU official.

Musonera added that COOTRAVEMOMU has insured over 300 of its members and other 130 members of the association will soon get similar uniforms.

According to the motorists, the uniforms will help eliminate wrong elements who pose as motorbike operators among them.

"The uniforms are credible and provide security for both the passenger and the operators. In case of any kind of misconduct and unprofessional tendencies, one can easily be compensated,” one recipient, Jean Pierre Habimana stated.

Traffic Police officials cautioned the motorists against indiscipline, urging them to be security conscious by observing traffic rules.

Some passengers have previously raised complaints over the declining hygiene among motorists in the area, citing dirty helmets.

However, Musonera said their cooperative is credible and has stringent measures against poor hygiene among its members.

He explained that the association closely monitors members’ cleanliness and each one who breaches their hygienic guidelines is fined at least Rwf.2500.
