Nicolas Mucyo is one of Kigali’s hottest music producers. Any musician he has worked with will testify to this, due to the success their songs receive the moment they leave his studio.
Despite all this success, he is still the same down to earth lad, ‘I am actually a quiet individual, social and outgoing. I am friendly and very curious about what surrounds me, especially people. Honesty and having a straight forward approach in life is probably what makes my personality in general,” he explains.
Now, how does an almost holy man produce music for the likes of Riderman?
"Having grown up serving the almighty God meant being exposed to music at a tender age while in church. As a church music leader, my church supported me and I furthered my studies in music and its production. I believe my local church laid the foundation for my career,” he points out.
With a good Christian background, every man is bound to be successful. But it is not fair to attribute Christianity as the sole aspect behind his success. His family has always been behind him; supportive and loving. He is the fourth child in a family of five.
He says, "I grew up in a home that groomed me in an upright manner from my childhood. They taught us to fear the Lord, respect our elders; not only my parents! Love is the other factor that my family instilled in me; they also taught me about forgiveness.”
He adds, "My family has seen me grow from Nicola the boy to the man I am today and am thankful to God for the family he gave me because they respect the different choices I have made, my career inclusive. I think I am who I am because of them.”
Mucyo does not only produce music, he is also a performing musician and a student at the Central African University. Now you may wonder how he juggles all of them successfully.
"Well, it’s about loving what you do and staying committed. Personally, I am very keen on time management which helps me to do the right task certainly at the right moment,” he explains.
The likes of Tom Close, Miss Channel, Ezra, Gaby, Patrick Nyamitali, Mani Martin and Jamal of the "Obawuwo” fame have all sought the skills of the twenty two year old.
Music producers of all kinds have specific musicians they like working with, of the hundreds Mucyo has worked with, he says, "I started out my career producing mostly Christian music. Later I realised how flexible I could be. This is when I begun working with most of the big names in Rwandan music and by the time they leave, most of them are quite good. However B-en is the most outstanding musician this country has to offer.”
He is pleased by "doing something and someone acknowledges that what I did was from within me.”
In the music world he adores the works of American Producer Timberland and his best musician is gospel singer Michael W. Smith. He also has a girl friend he adores like crazy!
