POLICE is holding a city businessman and a senior four school girl who are alleged to be behind a sex ring involving school girls mostly from Kigali.

The businessman, Mustapha Munyawera and Ladouce Bugenimfura, an 18-year old student of Aprede Ndera secondary school, are being held at Rusororo police station in Kabuga as investigations into the matter continue.

Munyawera was arrested on October 1 while Bugenimfura was picked on Friday. Police say the school girl is one of Munyawera’s many accomplices.

The businessman reportedly has various contacts within Kigali and upcountry schools who help him convince the girls to join the ‘business’.

Munyawera allegedly acts as a go-between girls and their ‘clients’ and when he gets paid, he in turn gives part of the money to the girls.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief, Costa Habyara, said police believe the man had been operating the ring for some months now although the information just filtered in a few days ago.

Munyawera admitted that at one point, two girls slept at his home and gave them Frw10, 000 the following day He told journalists that the girls are just ‘friends’. And that he was being framed by his enemies. 

But police say Munyawera has been in this business for long and it is not the first time he is detained for such crimes. Munyawera who acts as a housing agent denies the accusations.

The school girl denies having known Munyawera for a short period. "We only met during the tenth International trade fair held in Gikondo when he gave me his business card”, the worried Bugenimfura said on Friday.

She explained that when she reached school, she informed her friends about the man she met and showed them the business card. Her friends then called Munyawera and they visited him on a day she could not remember.
Her two friends decided to remain behind but she went back to school. After an absence of three weeks, they were expelled from school.

Efforts to contact the school’s administration for comment were futile as the headmaster’s phone number was off the whole day yesterday.

Sources say Munyawera reportedly caters for two categories of girls: those for commercial purposes and those seeking full-time partners.
