All animals were created with a need for affection and care and this need intensifies with humans as they have more capacity to understand and interpret it. God designed it in such a way that upon conception, the animal would get all the care and protection it needs from nature.

With humans, God provided us with a set of parents and equipped them well enough to produce and cater for offspring, steered mainly by one emotion, love.

The human being from the infant stage gets a lot of affection and protection as nature dictates and if for some reason the care is missing; dire consequences like personality disorders may result.

This is why efforts have to be intensified in rehabilitating orphans and street children if only to help these youngsters feel loved.

However what most people do not realise is that this need for affection persists in maturity hence upon graduating from home or gaining financial independence and responsibility, one is assumed to be emotionally independent.

As a result the society has so many grown babies falling prey to any expression of affection or care, which sadly is not always genuine.

Others learn to mask their hunger for affection that is considered ‘unmanly’ especially in the African society except for women who always get away with acting ‘childish’.

Some people come from broken homes or may not even have had the luxury of a family. Even within the family one may lack the proper love and care, making the need worse. Some grown-ups become social misfits as a result of overdoses of affection and lack of discipline in childhood.

In reality, the average person wants to be loved and the need is so selfish that two people of such desires will only try to take the most from each other-- such that if one of them does not become the giving party, the relationship does not suffice.

Why all these social mishaps? The reason is that humanity has failed to recognise or believe in the existence and supremacy of its creator and does not understand His immense love. In fact God’s love is enough to quench the whole of creation let alone humanity.

This love is best described by the following scriptures from the Bible which I call ‘His love letter to humanity’:

You may not know me, but I know everything about you…Psalm 139:1, For you were made in my image…Genesis 1:27, I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love…1 John 4:16, Every good gift that you receive comes from my hand…James 1:17, I love you with an everlasting love…

Jeremiah 31:3, Delight in me and I will give you the desires of your heart…Psalm 37:4, I am also the Father who comforts you in all your troubles…2 Corinthians 1:3-4, One day I will wipe away every tear from your eyes…Revelation 21:3-4, I am your Father, and I love you even as I love my son, Jesus…

John 17:23, For in Jesus, my love for you is revealed…John 17:26, Jesus died so that you and I could be reconciled…2 Corinthians 5:18-19, I gave up everything I loved that I might gain your love…Romans 8:31-32, If you receive the gift of my son Jesus, you receive me…

1 John 2:23, And nothing will ever separate you from my love again…Romans 8:38-39, I have always been Father, and will always be Father…Ephesians 3:14-15, My question is…Will you be my child?…John 1:12-13, I am waiting for you…Luke 15:11-32
