It was a night of Afrojazz sounds at the Kigali Serena Hotel as the Kigali Jazz Junction made a return after a two month break.

This month’s edition paired Rwandan folk music icon Jean Marie Muyango with Nigerian songbird Waje, who was performing in Rwanda for the first time. In the end, it was a great combo that brought together the best of Rwandan folk music and Nigerian pop.

Previously based in Belgium, Muyango returned home a couple of years ago for national duty, and is currently tasked with training and mentoring the National Ballet, Urukerereza.

Muyango was the first to assume the stage after some curtain-raising by the resident band, Neptunez. The tradition singer and legend sung almost all his songs which connected with the audience.

After Muyango, it was time for Waje to showcase the "strength and power” in her vocals like she had promised in the press conference a day earlier.

She kicked off her performance with the song that started it all; the 2008 P-Square mega hit, Do me, on which Waje is featured.

She went ahead to sing her more recent releases, most of which are collaborations with continental stars like Diamond Platnumz, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Timaya.

Clad in a brown dress with long slit, Waje managed to woo the audience with her powerful vocals. The show ended at ahalf past mid night.
