REGIONAL - A delegation of Ministers in charge of East African affairs began their three – day visit in the country on Friday, October 05 with a call for collective efforts towards attainment of the East African Community (EAC) objectives. The delegation headed by Uganda’s Minister in charge of East African affairs Eriya Kategaya who is also the Chairperson of the East African Council of Ministers. Included; Tanzania’s Ibrahim Msabaha and Karenga Ramadhani from Burundi.

Kategaya told the press at the Ministry of Foreign affairs offices shortly after their arrival that the tour was aimed at learning and sharing from each other in an effort to promote the standards of living of the East Africans, economic prosperity, development and political unity for the benefit of the present and future generations.

He underscored that there is need to focus collectively on the greater interests of the East African Community, adding that the bloc is now a bigger economic and political entity with enormous potential for enhanced leverage in regional and international affairs.

"We are impressed with progress Rwanda has so far registered. A lot of awareness has been created on issues of the East African Community, its important that government departments and all stakeholders get involved in this process” Kategaya said.

He however said there was still need for Burundi to build confidence among its investors in a bid to promote economic growth in the country.

Before their departure, the Ministers on October 06 met Prime Minister Bernard Makuza and later visited Kigali Genocide memorial site in Gisozi.

From Uganda and then Burundi, the Ministers will finally conclude their tour in Uganda and in February next year, the delegation will visit Kenya and Tanzania.
