RWANDA’s Police Handball Club have confirmed they will participate at this year’s East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) senior club championship set for November 10-17 in Zanzibar.
The newly crowned league champions decided to take part in the regional competition after being disqualified from the African Handball Champions League, which is scheduled for October 19-29 in Ivory Coast.
According to Police head coach, Dismas Turatsinze, the national handball league ended late and his side could not beat the registration deadline for Africa’s premier club competition.
"The league took longer than it was supposed to, which, as a result, failed to produce the champion in time for the registration earlier this month. All in all, preparations continue as we seek to win the regional ECAHF title in Zanzibar,” Turatsinze told Times Sport in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.
The six-time Rwandan champions are winners of the 2015 edition of the tournament, which was staged in Kigali. The law enforcers finished third the following year in Nairobi, Kenya.
