The national volleyball league side, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) have confirmed the signing of left-attacker Christophe Mukunzi from Gisagara volleyball club on a one-year contract.
The development was confirmed yesterday by REG head coach, Pierre Marshal Kwizera.
The 29-year-old had joined Gisagara from Saudi Arabian side Al-Mouj Club at the start of the 2017-18 domestic volleyball season.
"Christophe signed one year, and is surely going to be a key member of our squad next season. His vast experience and leadership is a big boost for the team, we are going to be stronger with him,” Kwizera told Times Sport on Tuesday.
The former Rwanda international also revealed that his side has extended the contract of Flavien Ndamukunda by one year, till end of the 2018-19 season.
Mukunzi, the national volleyball team captain, said in a separate interview that he looked forward to enjoying his volleyball and improve his level with REG. He was part of the Gisagara team that clinched a local treble of; the league, Genocide Memorial Tournament, and Carre d’As titles last season.
Previously, the star spiker has featured for Kigali Volleyball Club from 2007 to 2011 before turning professional in 2011 when he was signed by Libyan side Tarsana Club.
He also played for Algeria’s Blida Club, Qatari side Al Arabi Sports Club, El Fanar Ain-Azel Club, also of Algeria, and Turkey’s Payas Belediye Sport Club, as well as Bulgarian outfit VC Marek Union-Ivkoni.
