CIMERWA Chief Executive Officer, Bheki Mthembu, has pledged that the local cement factory will continue to support the development of golf in Rwanda.
Speaking during the awarding ceremony of this year’s edition of Cimerwa Corporates Golf Tournament at Nyarutarama Golf Club over the weekend, said that the company remains committed to supporting the sport and golfers in the country.
This year, the cement producers partnered with HYGEBAT, AfriPrecast, ROKO, BCEG, Transnova, and Kesi to fund the one-day event at a tune of Rwf53 million.
"Let me take this opportunity to thank Kigali Golf Club (KGC), partners and golfers for making this year’s competition a success,” noted.
The tournament also featured a fundraiser to establish the Kigali Golf Club caddies foundation fund, which will serve to support young golfers.
Over 100 golfers turned up for the yearly tournament.

As the best player from national team, Celestin Nsanzuwera was awarded golf equipment worth Rwf1.7m on top of the winner’s trophy. Emmanuel Nkurunziza finished as the first runner-up while Emmanuel Rutayisire finished in third position.
In the ladies category, Susan Ngure finished top after returning a gross of 70, Vernoon Keelin returned 71 to finish second, while Jenny Linda returned a net of 75 to finish third.
In the men’s veteran category, Gideon Kayinamura returned 70, tied at 70 with Frank Mustaff while Caesar Kayizari returned 71. Issah Byarugaba returned 66 to lift the title.
Sidney Mbua returned 64 net to win the handicap 10-18. Roger Bayingana (69) finished second while Sanday Kabarebe, also with 69 net, completed the top three.
In the 0-9 handicap, Charles Ntare emerged the best after returning 63 net, ahead of first runner-up Bill Kayonga (69 net) and David Rwinyamira, 70 net.
Innocent Rutamu was rewarded as the best for the nearest to the pin in men’s fray, while Susan Ngure still claimed the trophy for nearest to the pin in female category.
Over 23 trophies and eight Express DLS Models Push-charts (trollies) were rewarded to the best golfers on the night.
