Dear Editor,

Yesterday, I got so surprised when school children showed a high degree of ignorance about world current affairs. One Lynette had it rough when she tried to convince her schoolmates that Barack Obama is the first black President of America.

Unfortunately, her friends objected to this statement claiming she had got it wrong. It is therefore obvious that these children were ignorant about who Barack Obama is or any other information concerning the new American president.

I imagined how embarrassing it would be if the parents of these children were around to listen to such an argument. Although teachers are responsible to help our children to become knowledgeable, I believe that parents should also take time to educate their children about such issues.

Current affairs should be at the tips of our children’s fingers.
