The second edition of the CIMERWA Corporate Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday at the nine-hole Kigali Golf Course in Nyarutarama.
This year, CIMERWA, Rwanda’s main cement producer, have partnered with other sponsors namely; HYGEBAT, AfriPrecast, ROKO, BCEG, Transnova, Kesi Investment and TACT to inject in over Rwf53million to organize the one-day event.
Dubbed ‘CIMERWA GOLF 2018’, the tournament is expected to be fully packed with an array of 100 golfers including eight clienteles from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Cameroon.
The Chief Executive of CIMERWA, Bheki Mthembu, will also grace the tourney.
"As a passionate golfer, I appeal to my fellow golfers – the new Kigali Golf Club house is a great place to experience the game. We have an ever-budding golf scene and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to organize this premier annual golf event for the second time. We are confident that we will put together an unforgettable event for our golfers,” said Bheki.
"We believe very strongly in the empowerment of young players” the CEO continued "They are the future. This tournament will be a platform for golfers to have a good time and raise funds to support the caddies. As we strengthen the culture of sports in Rwanda, let’s also consider building a strong foundation for a better tomorrow”
The tournament is also expected to feature a "coming together” of club members to financially support the golf club by establishing Kigali Golf Club caddies foundation fund.
"It is such an honour to be the hosts of yet another edition of the CIMERWA Golf Tournament,” said Marcel Byusa, the Kigali Golf Club President.
Adding that, "For us, partners such as CIMERWA help us to professionalize the game. The Kigali Golf Club Women’s team was recently in Ghana for the All Africa Challenge Trophy 2018, thanks to CIMERWA for being sponsor. We look forward to an entertaining event.”
The Kigali Golf Club Captain, Dr. Davis Kashaka, also noted that everything is in place for the multi-category competition.
"The tournament will be played in five handicap categories including men, women and the seniors. The mode of play will be stroke play. The winners will also be determined in case of any eventuality like rain,” he explained.
The tournament will also attract the national team players including some young talents who have spent a great deal of their extra time being caddies.
In an effort to grow the sport and play the role of enabler, the best golfer from the national team will be awarded – by the event organizers – full golfing equipment worth Rwf1.7million.
