The Ministry of Education has ordered all schools to draft clear internal regulations, stipulating offences and corresponding sanctions in bid to curb unnecessary student dismissals.

The Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi issued the directive on Tuesday in Musanze District while launching the third phase of the Quality Education Enhancement Awareness Campaign.

Addressing about 200 School Teachers from the district, Munyakazi said that they should always guarantee their students the rights to study through applying convenient punishments to wrongdoers.

"The children have a right to study. We won’t support anyone who denies them their right,” the Minister noted.

Munyakazi explained that while government does not support impunity among students, it encourages educative disciplinary measures.

"We are encouraging all schools to have internal regulations communicated to parents and clearly stipulating the offences that can lead to student dismissal,” Munyakazi added

The third Quality Education Enhancement Awareness Campaign targets 900 schools, 30 in each district and will end on September 21, 2018. The schools to be visited include primary, general secondary, TVET schools and Higher Learning Institutions.

The campaign aims to addressing, among other challenges, school dropouts and repetition, poor leadership and mismanagement in schools, ineffective use of ICT in education as well as poor hygiene and sanitation.
