POLICE Handball Club, the newly crowned champions, have turned attention to the season-ending tournament, Care d’As, after edging APR to win the national handball league title at Kimisagara Youth Centre over the weekend.
Dismas Turatsinze’s side won championship after beating rivals and then defending champions APR 36-29 in a winner-take-all clash on Saturday. The law enforcers claimed the title with 54 points, four ahead of the military side.
Speaking to Times Sport in a post-match interview, Police coach Turatsinze said that the victory was a ‘well-deserved’ one and his side had consistently worked hard throughout the season.
"All the players gave it their best to realise this feat and I can only say I am happy and proud of everyone on the team. However, there is no room to relax, the season is not over yet and the training continues Monday to Friday till we also claim the Care d’As title,” he said.
Care d’As is a two-day tournament contested by the league’s top four. This year’s showpiece will bring together champions Police, first runners-up APR, Adegi Gicumbi and ES Kigoma.
The competition is slated for September 15-16 at Kimisagara Youth Centre courts.
