Dear Editor,
The 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi funded by France, executed by the Intarahamwe militia and supervised by late president Juvenal Habyariman’s government negatively affected the entire East African community.

But the current government under President Paul Kagame has embarked on a reconciliation campaign not only in Rwanda but also with other countries.

As a Ugandan I feel grateful when I hear that Rwanda wants to mend fences with Germany.

Yes, Rwanda and Germany are long time friends but their relationship soured when Germany arrested Rose Kabuye, a woman who sacrificed to liberate Rwanda against the bloodthirsty regime whose agenda was to eliminate all the Tutsi.

Though she was on official duty ahead of President Kagame’s visit to Europe, Germany stooped so low to appease France after allegations that Kabuye was involved in the shooting of Habyarimana’s plane.

As the two countries resume diplomatic ties, Germany should expedite the handing over of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) leaders.

These are genocide masterminds wanted by the United Nations for crimes against humanity.

I take this chance to ask other countries in the region to also reconcile with their political foes for the good of the East Africans.
