DAN Manzi, Rwanda’s US-based power forward has joined the national basketball team’s camp in rigorous training ahead of the upcoming second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers – scheduled for September 14-16 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Florida-based Rwanda international joined the team in residential camp on Saturday and is set for his first training session with teammates on Monday.
The team, under the tutelage of Serbian coach Vladimir Bosnjak and his assistant Maxime Mwiseneza, are in camp at Five to Five Hotel in Remera and train daily at Amahoro Stadium.
According to assistant coach Mwiseneza, the team will be leaving for Nigeria on September 10.
Besides Manzi, Serbian Bosnjak has also called four other foreign-based players.
Adonis Rwabigwi and Kevin Ndahiro, both based in the United States, are expected in the country today while Darrius Garret will be arriving on Monday – also from the US.
Long-serving shooting guard Kenneth Gasana will be the last to join the camp on Tuesday.
The best two from Groups E and F and the best third-ranked team will secure tickets to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
The first-ever 32-team edition of FIBA’s flagship competition will take place from August 31-September 15, 2019, in China.
