Africa U18 Basketball Championships: Rwanda face Egypt for ticket to semis

The national U18 boys basketball team will be looking to land a ticket for semi-finals when they take on giants Egypt in the last eight of the ongoing FIBA U18 African Championships in Mali.

Rwanda advanced to the quarter-finals on Wednesday after finishing third in Group B along with leaders Angola, first runners-up Senegal and Tunisia who finished in fourth position.

During the group campaign, Yves Murenzi’s youngsters recorded two victories against Algeria and Tunisia before losing their last two games to Angola and Senegal, respectively.

Rwanda beat Algeria 81-63 last Friday, and overcome Tunisia 62-58 the following day before enduring a nerve-wrecking 80-79 defeat at the hands of Angola on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Rwanda again lost, this time to Senegal in a 99-70 heavy defeat.

Egypt secured a slot to the round of last eight after finishing top in Group A.

In other quarter-final fixtures today, Libya face Senegal, DR Congo will be up against holders Angola while Tunisia and Mali square-off in the last encounter, starting at 9pm CAT.

Winners and the runners-up will seal tickets to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019.
