Sherrie Silver, a UK-based Rwandan choreographer, and her foundation have collaborated with different creative figures in a new song ‘Rwanda Komera’ ahead of Kwibuka 30.
As Rwanda marks 30 years of the commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, the foundation among different other artists took part in remembrance and sharing messages of solidarity.
"This song is very special to us as it is written to honour those who lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi,” the foundation revealed on their YouTube channel.
Among the special guest appearances who appeared in the music video are Massamba Intore, Chriss Eazy, Danny Nanone, Ariel Fits, Regina Eigne, Olakunle Churchill, Tuma Basa, Alyn Sano, Okkama, Malaika Uwamahoro, Naomie Nishimwe, David Bayingana and DJ Toxxyk.
The children featured in the song, sing about hope and solidarity. " Let our light shine as we come together, Rwanda Komera. We have come so far, 30 years, here we are. We see the light we are full of might Komera Rwanda.
"Let us remember out history, where love was lost and hope forgotten . Genocide against Tutsis, we lost our parents, friends and relatives. Let’s join together amd heal the wounds, mercy will bloom like flowers in the rain,”
"Let us welcome the truth and kindness. Let the light reign, let it reign. Let us remember as we build our world and building a better Rwanda.”
