Anorthosis 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Agg: 2-7)

The Amavubi Stars captain Olivier Karekezi steered his Swedish club Helsingborg to the group stages of the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

After conceding five goals in the first leg, Helsingborg completed a remarkable comeback by returning the favor against Dutch club SC Heerenveen, who could only muster one in reply.

Swedish veteran striker, Henrik Larsson set the ball rolling on 20 minutes before fellow country mate; Andreas Dahl netted the second goal on the 37th minute.

Benin international Razak Omotoyossi scored the third goal on the 45th minute before half time.

Karekezi who started on the right flank was substituted by DR Congo midfielder, René Makondele.

With his first game since injuring his knee, Karekezi was not on target but set up Omotoyossi first goal before half time.

The DR Congo international provided a two-goal cushion in the 52nd minute with Omotoyossi’s second strike coming in the 81st minute to make it 5-0 on the night.

The visitors’ consolation came from Dutch international, Gerald Sibon a minute from time. Helsingborg qualified to the group stages on 8-6 goal aggregates.

Meanwhile, despite Hamad Ndikumana’s return to the Cypriot giants, Anorthosis could only manage a draw 1-1 against English side Tottenham hence falling out on 7-2 goal aggregate. A late goal from substitute Robbie Keane saved Tottenham from defeat and confirmed their place in the group stage.

The tie was effectively over after Anorthosis 1-6 loss in the first leg but the home side restored some pride with Brazil international, Fabio de Matos Pereira giving them the lead early in the second half.
