Spanish agent Gonzalo Fernandez has started his journey in Kigali for the 16th African Youth Championship, Rwanda 2009 to rule over potential talents from the Rwandan team.
In a candid conversation with Times Sport, yesterday Fernandez said that his visit to Rwanda to watch the Caf youth championship is aimed at running a rule over potential Rwandan talents for possible professional careers, mainly for Spanish and South American clubs.
Fernandez said, "I believe in the future of Rwandan players and am here to scout and find a possible way of how I can take them to Europe.”
"I’m only focused on Rwandan players in the two-week long championship and I believe I will find the suitable players. Rwanda has some talented players who can actually make it at the professional level,” he acknowledged.
Fernandez did not name the clubs he works but revealed that he intends to follow Rwanda’s every game as well as training sessions with keen interest.
The man who claims to have played for Spanish side Athletic Madrid between 1998 and 2000 says he became interested in Rwandan players on recommendation by Rwanda’s U-17 coach Michael Weiss.
The African Youth Championship started on Sunday at Amahoro stadium and will wind up on February 1.
Rwanda won her opening game 2-1 against Mali as Ghana was held by Cameroon 1-1 in Group A.
