South Sudan President Salva Kiir, who is also current Chairperson of the East African Community, arrived in Kigali to participate in the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi starting on Sunday, April 7.
In the afternoon of the same day, Uganda's Vice President Jessica Rose Alupo arrived, followed moments later by Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who also arrived in Kigali to participate in the commemoration.

The two leaders join several other dignitaries who are already in Rwanda to attend Kwibuka 30. Leaders who earlier travelled to Kigali for Kwibuka 30 include Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Czech Republic President Petr Pavel, President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is scheduled for April 7.
The commemoration day (April 7) marks the beginning of a week-long series of events to honour the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of more than one million people in 100 days.
