All vehicles should have seatbelts

Dear Editor,
I am among the many Rwandans who use public transport.

I however suggest that government should come up with a regulation that compels all commuter taxis to have seat belts. The belts can protect passengers in-case-of any accident.

During their impromptu check ups, traffic police only confirm whether two of the three people seated in front are using the seat belts.

Is this the right way to verify if passengers are safe?  How can you be sure about everyone’s safety simply because the driver and one other passenger are using their safety belts?

Don’t you think that the person who sits at the front but on the middle seat is more likely to fly out in case of an accident?

Please, consider all the other passengers and make sure that by the time a car qualifies to be on the road, each seat has a seatbelt that is in usable condition.
