Dominique Ntawangundi, the newly appointed head coach of Gisagara volleyball club has relished the trust bestowed on him to take charge of the national league champions.

The former Kirehe Volleyball club coach who signed a two-year contract with Gisagara on Sunday, was among the founding member of UNIK (formerly INATEK) in 2009 and went on to guide them to two league titles and two Genocide Memorial Tournaments among other titles.

Ntawangundi joins Gisagara following the departure of former coach Fidele Nyirimana who was hijacked by archrivals UTB on a three-year deal last week.

"It is of great honor to be associated with Gisagara as their new coach, my aim is to maintain what has been achieved and fight to set the bar even higher,”Ntawangundi said.

According to the president of the club, Augustin Ntivuguruzwa, the arrival of Ntawangundi and his vast experience in Rwandan volleyball is a great boost to Gisagara Volleyball Club.

"Dominique (Ntawungundi) has achieved a lot as a coach, everyone knows that. We are looking forward to tapping into his knowledge and experience to win more titles.”

In March this year, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) disqualified Rwandan champions Gisagara from this year’s continental Men’s African Club Championships because of the club missed the deadline to submitting the required registration documents.

Only this year, the two-time reigning champions won Genocide Memorial Tournament and retained the league title before claiming the season-ending Carre d’As tournament last month after edging archrivals Rwanda Energy group (REG) in the best-of-three finals.

It was the club’s first Carre d’As title since their formation three years ago.
