President Paul Kagame yesterday boosted community service works (Umuganda) to build more classrooms at Groupe Scolaire Kimironko I with Rwf5 million.

The president’s message to residents of Kimironko area in Kigali City’s Gasabo District where the school is located was delivered by the Minister for Defence, James Kabarebe.

Kabarebe laid a foundation for a three-storey building that will host 18 classrooms at the school but sent his support for the initiative.

On top of donating the money, the defence minister said, Kagame requested for the construction of the building to be completed within six months.

The president’s support was also confirmed by the president’s office in a tweet.

"This morning, President Kagame pledged Rwf5million for the construction of Groupe Scolaire of Kimironko being built as part of Umuganda and with a deadline of six months to be completed. The school is home to over 1,000 school children”.

The new building will help reduce congestion in classrooms at Groupe Scolaire of Kimironko I, officials said.

Minister Kabarebe said that residents in the area can expect the construction works for the classrooms to be completed within six months.

The 18-classroom building will be built by the Reserve Force, which is under direct supervision of the Ministry of Defence.

Kabarebe thanked residents of Kimironko for keeping up the practice of community service, explaining that it remains a hallmark of real patriotism and striving towards self reliance.

Umuganda is held in communities across the country every last Saturday of every month.
