Rwanda’s Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza and Ghana’s skipper Ayew Dede were awarded Samsung Best player of the match accolades on the opening day of the 16th African Youth Championship.

Both players were awarded Samsung phones for their outstanding roles in their respective teams’ first matches.

Caf media official Nicholas Musonye presented the two players the awards which are sponsored by Samsung.

Mugiraneza scored the opener for Rwanda on the seventh minute in the 2-1 win over Mali in Group A opening match.

The APR midfielder covered every green on a day when everything he did went his way for the full 90 minutes.

Dede scored Ghana’s equalizer and also pulled the strings for his team with a strong display of top class football against a physical but less skilled Cameroon side.

Samsung is the official sponsor of the 16th African Youth Championship which started yesterday and runs until February 1.
