Kenya’s CAF/Fifa referee Alfred Ndinya has been summoned to officiate at the 16th Africa Youth Championship which started yesterday in Kigali.

Ndinya was called after three of the 18 referees selected by Confederation of African Football failed to pass the Cooper referees fitness test last week.

During the 35th Cecafa Challenge Cup, Ndinya handed all of Rwanda’s group stage fixtures.

The controversial Kenyan official denied Rwanda a blatant penalty in the 4-0 defeat to the tournament eventual winners Uganda Cranes.

He also awarded Tanzania a dubious penalty in their narrow 2-1 defeat against Uganda, a result that meant Rwanda bowed out of the regional tournament early on goal difference. 

Ndinya was summoned together with other two regional referees; Hussein Bugembe (Uganda) and Rwanda’s Felicien Kabanda.

Referees who failed the cooper fitness test include; centre referee Gilbert Ndume (Gabon), Rwanda’s assistant referee Desire Bamporiki and assistant referee Seedy Manneh (Gambia).

The trio is set to undergo a cooper fitness test this morning at Amahoro stadium.

Meanwhile, centre referee who include; Rwanda’s Michel Gasingwa, Abdel Gadir Badr (Sudan), Keita Yakhouba (Guinea), Bennet Daniel (South Africa), Wellington Kaoma (Zambia), Ousmane Fall (Senegal), and Ragab Omar Mohamed (Libya) passed the Cooper test to officiate at the African Youth Championship.

The assistant referees who passed include; Jean Claude Birumushahu (Burundi), Biagui Djoukere (Togo), Adolphe Adama Pare (Burkina Faso), Rouani Bouazza (Morocco), Koissoual Waldabet (Tchad) and Aden Marwa Range (Kenya).

Hosts Rwanda Mali, Cameroon and Ghana are drawn in Group A while South Africa is drawn in group B against favorite winners, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and FIFA Under-20 World Cup hosts Egypt.
