KIST introduces Faculty of Architecture and Environment Design

In an effort to boost the country’s human resource base, the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) has introduced a new faculty to compliment the existing two.

In an effort to boost the country’s human resource base, the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) has introduced a new faculty to compliment the existing two.

This was revealed by the institutions Rector, Abraham Ogwu, who said that the new faculty will be Architecture and Environment Design (FAED) one.    

"The new faculty has come as a third Faculty in KIST, after the Faculties of Science and Technology” Ogwu said.

Underscoring the strategic objectives of the project, Ogwu said that it would increase the level of skilled human resources to anchor the land reform process, Physical planning and development, urban planning and redevelopment, and modernization of settlement in line with the existing infrastructure of the country.

"Our objective is to deliver quality education, research and community service in building sciences and related technologies is our target,” said the Vice Rector for Academics, Thomas Gatabazi, specifying the objectives of the new Faculty to pioneer students on Friday.

He added that the institution would work on new infrastructures and rehabilitate existing ones to accommodate the new faculty. 

 Ogwu said, "The faculty will have its centre at the deanship of FAED and will have three departments, each delivering under graduate Honors Degree.”

The vice rector in charge of Finance Professor, John Mushana, said that the institution has already admitted 21 students in the department of Architecture that while other departments of the faculty will start functioning next year after the completion of infrastructures whose construction is underway.

A Bachelors degree in this faculty will take five years while the integrated Masters in architecture will be six years.

The extra year is required for these professional qualifications to conform to the standards and training periods of other countries in the East African Community.
