Gishali Police Training School on Saturday handed over a Rwf6 million house to Clotilde Mahundaza, a resident in Cyinyana Cell, Gishali Sector in Rwamagana District and gave health insurance cards, mutuelle de santé, to 250 disadvantaged people.

Clotilde Mahundaza – a Genocide survivor – has been living in a house rented for her by Gishari Sector. The funds were raised by the staff and officer cadets currently under training at the college.

The 75-year-old said she was happy because she now has decent shelter she can call her own.

Dativa Mukarutesi, one of the beneficiaries of the health insurance, thanked the upcoming officers for their generosity

"These are rewards of good governance that our country enjoys,” she said.

"It’s amazing how these young people keep looking back to support the disadvantaged in communities and to improve our welfare,” the mother of five added.

The Governor of Eastern Province, Fred Mufulukye, thanked the Officer Cadets for the humanitarian gesture.

He appealed to residents to emulate this human gesture by playing a role in community policing and crime prevention.

"Building a nation and improving the welfare of the people becomes easy when everyone feels the responsibility of giving the little you have and manpower to support those in need,” the governor said

The Commandant of Gishali Police Training School, CP Vianney Nshimiyimana, said that Rwanda National Police invests in human security both as effective tools for proactive policing and to supplement national development efforts.

He commended the existing partnership between the public and residents of Gishari in particular in community policing aspects and also called for increased efforts against drug related crimes.

Last year, PTS also connected 166 families of Gati Village in Gishari Sector to solar energy systems.
