Gisagara Volleyball Club have turned their attention to this year’s NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Championship after clinching Carre d’As title last weekend at Amahoro stadium.
The 22nd NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Championship is scheduled for August 3-5 in Kampala, Uganda.
League champions Gisagara won the season-ending tournament after edging archrivals Rwanda Energy group (REG) in a five-set thriller, making it their first Carre d’As title since the club’s formation three years ago.
According to head coach Fidele Nyirimana, daily training continues as they seek to add KAVC title to the league, Genocide Memorial and Carre d’As titles they have already won this year.
"We have had a fantastic season. My players have consistently worked hard and maintained the momentum than any other side. However, we won’t rest on our laurels – not now, – as we are now targetting the KAVC title in Uganda,” Nyirimana told Times Sport on Wednesday.
According to organisers, this year’s KAVC Championship will also attract teams from Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan.
Since it’s established in 1995, the KAVC memorial tournament has been a star attraction for a number of East Africa’s top teams. The teams from the region will be slugging it out at the MTN arena in Lugogo, Makerere University Business School Nakawa and Namboole.
Rwanda’s APR (men) and RRA (women) will be seeking to retain titles they won last year.
