Rayon edge Marines to power into Peace Cup semis

Tuesday Rayon 3-1 Marines (4-1 Agg) Rayon Sports will meet Sunrise FC in semi-finals of the 2018 Peace Cup tournament after edging out Marines 4-1 in the last eight on Tuesday.

The 2016 Peace Cup winners sent Marines FC packing 4-1 on aggregate after overcoming the Rubavu-based side in both legs of their quarter-finals tie, 1-0 in the first-leg over the weekend before Tuesday’s 3-1 victory at Kigali Stadium.

The Blues went a goal down after 9 minutes courtesy of Christian Ishimwe classic finish from Hussein Nsabimana’s assist but it was short-lived before Christ Mbondi netted an equalizer for the hosts in the 30th minute.

The Cameroonian forward completed a first-half brace in the 41st minute.

With 15 minutes to time, Gabriel Mugabo scored to make it 3-1 – sending Rayon sports into the last four with an emphatic 4-1 aggregate win over Yves Rwasamanzi’s side.

Semi-finals of the country’s second biggest football tournament are set for August 3-9.
