A music concert in honour of the heroes of the country’s liberation struggle is slated for this week.

Dubbed, ‘Inkera y’Inkotanyi’, the concert will take place on Thursday, July 26, at the JJ Club at Park Inn by Radisson, in Kiyovu.

Rwandan traditional music icon Intore Massamba will be the main performer at the event.

According to Raoul Rugamba, the organiser, the show will feature Massamba and friends, plus special guest artistes. They will entertain with traditional music and dance performances, and songs that were used as morale boosters during the struggle for the country’s liberation.

This year marks 24 years since the country’s liberation from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi by the then rebel outfit, the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

The day is celebrated every July 4.

"We put the concert on this date because the whole of July is liberation month in Rwanda,” said Rugamba.

The other reason is that Intore Massamba is currently out of the country, and has been touring with similar concerts in Europe. His latest liberation concert was held in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, among other cities.

Massamba is expected to jet back into the country on Wednesday, July 25, on the eve of the concert. The event will kick off at 7pm and go on till late.

Entrance fee is Rwf10,000 per head.
