Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial early on Friday to pay tribute to victims and survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Nyusi who was accompanied by a delegation of public and private sector officials, laid a wreath in memory of the over 250,000 bodies buried at the memorial.
"We are here to pay solidarity and to learn from this country. We need to keep the story for the new generation to understand where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going,” he told the press right after his visit.
Rwanda’s Justice Minister Johnston Busingye had earlier told this paper that Rwanda has evidence that there is a number of Genocide fugitives in Mozambique.
"The evidence is so credible that we sent about six indictments already. So, cooperation in justice is a key aspect of our relationship,” he said in a separate interview.
However, in his short address to the media, Nyusi did not comment on what was being done by his country to bring these fugitives to justice.
