Egypt and South Africa arrive in the country today for the 16th African Youth Championship which gets underway at this Sunday Amahoro stadium.

The Local Organizing Committee (Loc) secretary general who also doubles as its spokesman Jules Kalisa confirmed yesterday that the two teams arrive today but at different times.

Three-time winners, Egypt, who were initially to arrive yesterday, land at Kigali international airport at midday aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

However, the arrival of the South African team had not been confirmed by press time but the Amajita Stars will arrive later in the afternoon.

Egypt are coming at this tournament seeking for a fourth title before hosting the Fifa World Youth Championship later this year.

The young pharaohs will be staying at Milles Collines hotel, which they share with Ghana throughout the duration of the two-week long tournament while South Africa share Stipp hotel with the hosts.

Cameroon who won the title in 1995 after a 4-0 rout over Burundi arrived in the country last evening along with two-time winners Ghana and Mali.

Mali, who reached the final in the 1989 edition before losing 1-0 to Nigeria, have been camping in Burundi since last week.

Hosts Rwanda Mali, Cameroon and Ghana are drawn in Group A while South Africa’s Amajita is drawn in group B against favorite winners, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Fifa Under-20 World Cup hosts Egypt.
