Film star Sonia Uwimbabazi epitomises determination. This brown eyed 28 year-old beauty has always wanted to be an actress for as long as anyone who knows her can remember. At a tender age of four, her talent was evident, and exhibited in school dramas.

Film star Sonia Uwimbabazi epitomises determination. This brown eyed 28 year-old beauty has always wanted to be an actress for as long as anyone who knows her can remember. At a tender age of four, her talent was evident, and exhibited in school dramas.

In 2005, at only 20, she starred in her first performance.  Her first film entitled "Isugi” is frequently aired on TV5 channel. She plays the lead role as an innocent girl who tried to protect her purity.

While at the university a year later, she also acted in a film called "Hey Mr. DJ”.

In this film Uwimbabazi was again the main character playing the role of a HIV positive young lady, who spreads the virus to unsuspecting partners. She meets a famous nightclub DJ, whom she doesn’t spare either.

Last year, Uwimbabazi participated in the Miss Earth Rwanda beauty pageant where she emerged second-runner-up, and was crowned Miss Water. She also emerged best Rwandan model at a modelling competition held in Congo Brazzaville.

Meanwhile, the actress and model gave us some more insight about her career, style and her education background: Persona - laid back, outgoing, loves meeting people, and extremely down to earth.

Future prospects

I see myself getting more confident in my interpretation of roles. My love and passion for the profession has grown tremendously. I am not as shy as I used to be when I first started.
