After staging a disappointing performance at the 41st CECAFA Kagame Cup in Tanzania last week, APR have switched their focus to quarter-finals of the ongoing 2018 Peace Cup.

The reigning league champions will face archrivals Police FC in the last eight as they bid to retain the title of the country’s second biggest football tournament. The two sides will lock horns in the first-leg on July 20 before facing-off in the return-leg on July 23.

The three-time Cecafa champions, APR, put up a disastrous show at this year’s edition which concludes today in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s two giants Azam FC and Simba SC square-off in the final, which will be preceded by the third place playoff between Kenya’s Gor Mahia and JKU of Zanzibar.

APR were eliminated from group stages after finished third in Group B, only managing one victory out of three games played. The military side lost identical 2-1 defeats to Tanzanian sides Singida United and Azam FC before routing Dakadaha of Somalia 4-1 in their last game.

While speaking to Times Sport on Wednesday, APR’s Serbian coach Ljubomir ‘Ljupko’ Petrovic urged his players to forget about the Cecafa nightmare and focus on Peace Cup glory.

"What’s important right now is the match against Police, we are leaving behind the Cecafa disappointment. We have started training for the double-legged tie and we are ready for challenge. The mission to retain the title,” Petrovic said.

The final of the annual Peace Cup is scheduled for August 8 with winners automatically qualifying to represent the country at the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
