Miracles still happen!

I love Happy Endings and so I shed a few tears of joy when the 12 Thai Boys and their Coach who had been missing for over a week were found alive and well in a flooded Cave. Tell me that’s not a miracle! Reminds me of the 33 Chilean miners who survived 69 days in a collapsed Mine.

I think it’s amazing how some people’s survival instinct kicks in when tested to extremes. There you are trapped several miles underground with no light, little or no food or water and yet somehow, people still survive. I’ve also heard remarkable accounts of divers and surfers who fought off sharks, crocodiles and other sea creatures.

It takes a mixture of courage and sheer will to survive to make it out alive. I’m not sure I’d have the presence of mind to get myself out such situations and I hope I never get tested that way. I’ve been stuck in Lifts a couple of times and I can tell you I started sweating even though it was probably only 5 minutes.

I panic when power goes off and I’m in an unfamiliar environment so I can’t even begin to imagine what those boys have been going through. The good thing is that it was a group, not one person stuck down there on their own. I think I’d die from the fear alone!

The thought of all the things that could be creeping up and down those cave walls and floor terrifies me. I’d probably jump at any and every sound and given that the cave is flooded, I’d probably drown sooner than later.

Then there’s the question of food. I think the longest I’ve gone without food was two days and even then, it wasn’t completely without anything to eat at all. There have been times I’ve skipped Lunch for one reason or another and I can tell you the ensuing hunger pangs are no joke.

This is why I don’t waste food. Some things you just can’t take for granted. Speaking of which, I wonder what the group did about showers. Probably the least of their worries given the circumstances! Bathroom breaks must have been the more urgent issue. First, you’d have to accept the fact that there’s no toilet and likely no toilet paper.

I’ll leave that at that! A quick thank you to the Search and Rescue Teams who refused to give up until the missing group was located. As the days went by, I feared the worst. I can only imagine their thoughts on seeing those first divers.

Elation and I guess relief that they were going to make it afterall. I won’t ask what they were thinking heading down there in the first place. I’m just glad they’re okay and their families are celebrating, not mourning.

Can’t say I l wish for more trying or tragic events to happen but I love when people around the World are galvanized by trying moments like these and those in position to help step up while the rest of us who can’t physically or otherwise, say a prayer or even just follow the story because at the end of the day, we all just want to live and wish the same for others.
