GICUMBI — Classes were yet to start at several schools in Byumba, in Gicumbi district yesterday, a day after schools opened.

All schools opened for first term on Monday.

At several primary schools visited by The New Time, on Tuesday, officials were carrying out registration while most pupils were cleaning the compound and classes.

At Gacurabwenge, Inyange and Byumba Anglican Church Primary Schools, most pupils were found sweeping their classrooms while new comers, said to have shifted from their previous schools, were still registering.

Some of them were accompanied by their parents or guardians at Inyange Parents Primary School.

At the Byumba Anglican Church Primary School, the same atmosphere was felt as most pupils had not entered classes. They were playing in the school compound.

"We are still settling them according to their classes and cross checking if all pupils have brought with them the right shoes and school uniforms,” said Prudence Mujuni, a teacher at Byumba Anglican Church Primary School.
