Investing in education is the best choice anyone can make as it boosts the country’s competitiveness on the increasingly knowledge-based global economy, according to Isaac Munyakazi, the State Minister in charge of Primary and Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education.
Munyakazi was speaking on Friday while presiding over the 4th graduation ceremony of the University of Kigali in an event held at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village.
A total of 1,524 students graduated from the University, including 780 who completed their post-graduate studies, 150 in masters and 594 in bachelor’s programme.
Munyakazi congratulated graduates for the achievement and urged them to invest the acquired skills and knowledge wisely both for the good of their future careers, the future of the country and that of the people of Rwanda in general.
"I am very confident that the skills you acquired will contribute to the development of the country and the region as well,” he said, urging the university to prioritize delivery of quality programmes that are aligned with the vision of the country.
Prof. Manasseh Nshuti, the University’s Chairperson Board of Promoters reminded graduates to stay the learning course, saying that education does not have any limit.
"To achieve what you did today was not been an easy journey. But education does not end and we need people who are even hungry to learn more and more. The university was established not just as a business but to contribute to the national development by delivering quality education,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Joel Gasigwa who was one of the best performing post-graduate candidates called on fellow graduates to join efforts and make the best out of the skills acquired.
"We can’t take for granted the efforts made to ensure quality education imparted to us. If we keep up with the knowledge and keep an open mind, no doubt we can shape our future instead of being shaped by it”.
