Mico seeks to improve and impress at Sofapaka

Rwanda international midfielder Justin Mico has insisted that his priority number one at his new Kenyan side, Sofapaka, is to focusing on improving his level and fight to be a regular on the starting line-up.

The former Police FC playmaker told Times Sport in an exclusive interview yesterday before departing to Kenya aboard RwandAir. He took off at 8:00am.

Mico, 24, is a versatile footballer who can play as a striker, playmaker or midfielder.

He signed a three-year contract with Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka last week, becoming the club’s fourth signing this summer ahead of the 2018/2019 season.

"It’s very fortunate that I’m joining the team well ahead of the new season, I will have enough time to train, acclimatize and blend in with my new teammates and the club management. What I am mainly focused on is to improve my football and contribute to the club’s success,” Mico said.

The former Etincelles talisman was first spotted in the lead-up to the 2011 Africa U-17 Youth Championship that was staged in Kigali during which he featured as the lead striker, eventually helping Rwanda to qualify for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup finals in Mexico.

The talented midfielder joins Kenya’s Sofapaka after three years at Police FC, during which he helped the law enforcers to win the Peace Cup – in 2016.

Previously, the soft-spoken midfielder also guided AS Kigali to winning the 2013 Peace Cup.
