Two Rwandan representatives at the underway 41st CECAFA Kagame Cup; Rayon Sports and APR, are on the brink of premature exit from the tournament following Rayon Sports’ second draw on Tuesday and APR’s second defeat on Monday.
APR were humbled 2-1 by Simba SC, making their second loss out of two games played so far following a similar defeat at the hands of Tanzania’s Singida United last Friday.
The military side will be back in action today, taking on struggling Dakadaha of Somalia in the two sides’ last Group C fixture – starting at 3pm, at Tanzania National Stadium.
Should the 3-time Cecafa Cup winners, APR, drop points to Somalia champions this afternoon, they will bow out of the tournament. A victory will allow them to stand a chance to advance to knock-outs as one of the two best second runners-up.
On the other hand, Rayon Sports were held to a 1-all draw by AS Posts on Tuesday.
The Blues’ Burundian skipper Pierrot Kwizera opened the scoring in the 45th minute to hand Rayon Sports a first-half lead which later cancelled out by Mouhamoud Douale with 5 minutes to stoppage time, earning them a crucial point they needed to reach the round of last eight.
Elsewhere in Group B, Burundian champions Lydia Ludic and Kenya’s Gor Mahia also played out a 1-all draw.
After two match rounds, AS Ports top Group B table with 4 points, Gor Mahia are second with 2 points, tied on same point tally as third-placed Rayon Sports while Lydia Ludic are located at the bottom with one point.
