Amavubi U-20 winded up their demanding preparation to this year’s African youth championship with a 1-3  defeat at the hands of  Egypt on Saturday in Cairo.

The defeat was Rwanda first loss in the North Africa have played six build ups in preparation for the African Youth Championship due in Kigali next week.  

Haruna Niyonzima was on target for the visitors in a match where Rayon Sport midfielder Yusuf Ndayishimiye was sent off.
Rwanda won the first leg 2-1 played mid last week with  Jean Baptista Mugiraneza and Yusuf Ndayishimiye getting on target .

Their win over Egypt was Rwanda’s fifth win in the Magharebia after recoding four wins over Tunisian sides.

Rwanda faces Mali, Cameroon and Ghana in Group A while Group B consists of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Egypt.

As hosts, Rwanda will open the competition against Mali at Amahoro stadium on January 18, 2009 before another cracker sees Ghana taking on arch rivals Cameroon.

Rwanda needs to reach the semi-finals to be assured of a place at the World Youth Championships finals to be hosted by Egypt.

The four semi-finalists from the tournament will automatically qualify for the 2009 Under-20 World Cup to be played in Egypt.

If hosts Egypt reach the last four in Rwanda then the 5th placed team will automatically qualify for the Under-20 World Cup.
