The national women’s sitting volleyball team has set a target to reach the round of last eight when they make their debut at the upcoming 2018 Sitting Volleyball World Championships due July 15-22 in the Netherlands.

Rwanda have been pooled in Group A alongside Croatia, Canada and Netherlands.

Speaking to Times Sport in an exclusive interview on Thursday, head coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva acknowledged that team has been placed in a deadly group but the girls have been prepared accordingly and the main target is to make it out of group stages.

"Our major target is to reach in quarter-finals, and from that stage, we can focus on each game as it comes. In Group A, we have played Canada before – at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, we will do everything possible to win the first game, which would be a massive morale boost,” Nsengiyumva told this publication yesterday.

After three months of non-residential training, the former Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) coach also revealed that the team will be reporting to residential camp in Huye district on June 29.

Rwanda qualified for the world’s biggest sitting volleyball event after beating Egypt last September to win the African Para Volleyball Championship in Kigali.
