With three successful seasons under its belt, the ‘Seka Live’ comedy series can only get better.

Now organisers have announced July 1 as the date for the 4th edition, and the venue remains the same — the outside marquee at Kigali Serena Hotel.

‘Seka Live’ is a quarterly comedy bonanza that brings the best of local and regional comedy talent and music to the same stage.

It is the brainchild of local comedian, actor and radio personality Arthur Nkusi, whose digital media company, Arthur Nation, organises the forum.

Season 4 will have "a touch of the giants on the same stage”, according to Nice Budandi, the manager of Arthur Nation. Among these is Kenneth Kimuli aka Pablo, one of the pioneering standup comedians in Uganda.

Credited for inspiring and mentoring many leading standup comedians in Uganda and the region, Pablo will be bringing to Kigali his popular ‘Happiness is killing me’ comic series.

Also lined up to crack ribs is Alex Muhangi, another pioneering Ugandan standup comedian who has recently reinvented himself with his weekly ‘Comedy Store’ series in Kampala.

Like with all previous ‘Seka Live’ shows, this too will be spiced up by musical performances. For this role, organisers will fly in Ugandan singer Ragga Dee, who is known to his fans for his comic antics.

Previously, the music slot was filled by local gospel band, the Beauty for Ashes.

"We wanted to give people a legendary touch,” retorted Budandi when asked why the choice of the Ugandan musician.

Local acts that will grace the show include Arthur Nkusi, the host, and Kimenyi Herve, alongside a slew of up and coming talents.

Nkusi and Kimenyi will be returning to the local comedy stage for the first time after a long theatrical tour of Europe with the Mashirika Performing Arts and Media Company.

The first season of ‘Seka Live’ took place in March last year, and three months later, in June, it returned for its second edition. Foreign comedians that have performed at previous editions include Teacher Mpamire and Anne Kansiime from Uganda, Kigingi from Burundi, and Kenyan funny man Chipukeezy, among others.

The show will feature skits in English (predominantly), and Kinyarwanda.

Tickets go for Rwf 5,000 and Rwf 10,000 (VIP).
