The reigning Genocide Memorial Handball Tournament winners, Police Handball Club take on Saint Aloys Rwamagana this morning, at 9am, in the opening match of this year’s edition as they seek to retain the title for a third consecutive time since 2016.
The 2018 edition has attracted a total fifteen teams, nine men’s category and six in their female counterparts.
The law enforcers have been drawn in Group A alongside Saint Aloys Rwamagana and Ruhango-based ES Kigoma. The three sides in each group will face each other on a round-robin basis today, to determine the top team and the best first runners-up to advance to Sunday’s finals.
Group B is comprised of Uganda’s Makerere University, ADEGI and APR while Pool C includes; Evergreen of Uganda, College Inyemeramihigo and Nyakabanda.
The six women’s teams have been subgroups into two pools, Group A (ES Kirambo, ES Kabarongo and ES Gikonko) and Group B of; Uganda’s Nkajja, TTC de la Salle and APEGA.
Over 20 people associated with the handball federation, who include players, coaches and administrators, were killed during the Genocide, which claimed more than one million people.
