Champions Rayon Sports have suspended their captain Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye until further notice for faking injury and conspiring against his own team to lose in a bid to get head Coach Ivan Minneart fired.

Times Sport has learned that the club management made the decision on Saturday night after finding out that the skipper feigned an injury to miss the league match against Musanze FC last Friday, which ended in a goalless draw at Ubworoherane Stadium.

The 30-year-old Rwanda international has since apologized to fans and the entire team.

Besides the suspension, Ndayishimiye was also stripped of the club captaincy, which was handed over to Burundian playmaker Pierrot Kwizera who was the assistant captain.

In his last match as captain, the defending champions lost 2-1 to struggling Amagaju at Amahoro Stadium. It is reported that goalie Bakame had a hand in the shocking defeat, which terminated the club’s pursuit for the league title defense, prompting angry reactions from fans.

Also involved in the conspiracy is Eric Ntwali, Rayon Sports’ kit manager who was suspended for one week and was requested to explain and apologize for his wrongdoing.

With five match rounds to the end of the 2017/2018 league, Rayon Sports are in third place with 45 points, six adrift of table leaders APR and second-placed AS Kigali who both have 51 points.
