ELIE Nshimiyimana was crowned champion of the inaugural National Pool Table Championship after beating Ben Rwamucyo 2-0 on Saturday night at Active Pub, in Remera.

Nshimiyimana overcame Rwamucyo in the final to pocket the Rwf 1.5million grand prize of the tournament while Joseph Gasarasi defeated Fauzi Ishimwe to finish in the third position.

Finalist Rwamucyo earned Rwf 1million while Gasarasi walked away with Rwf 800,000.

First of its kind in the country, the competition started last month with preliminaries at 16 different sites, eight in Kigali and eight more upcountry. The winner at each site was given Rwf 100,000 token to prepare for the round of last sixteen.

According to organizers, there will be another championship in August, designed to only be contested by teams. For a team to register, they need to have at least eight players.
