Rwanda’s world record holder Jean Yves Kanyamibwa has set his sight on taking part in the 2010 London Olympic Games in 3000m steeplechase.

Kanyamibwa bounced his way to a Guinness world record in April, 2008 after completing the London marathon while dribbling a basketball in four-and-a-half four.

The 19 year-old from Cambridge who studies medicine at St George’s University in London expressed his desire to represent his country of birth at the 2012 London Games.

The Rwanda National Olympic Committee (Rnoc) president Ignace Beraho confirmed the development Thursday.

Speaking to Times Sport Thursday, Beraho disclosed how Kanyamibwa has already communicated to Rnoc with a view to seeing how to develop his talent and even beat the minimum qualifications in 3000m steeplechase for the 2012 Olympic Games.

"We held talks with him recently while he was here on holiday, and he expressed his desire to feature for Rwanda at the Olympic Games.

"We will assist and cater for his training program which is likely to cost over 2000 pounds a year so that he could realize his dream,” stated Beraho.

After completing the course in four hours, 30 minutes and 29 seconds in April, Kanyamibwa now holds the Guinness world record for the fastest marathon run while dribbling a basketball.

The Rwandan teenager contacted Guinness world records, which carried out checks on the day and confirmed he was indeed a world record holder.
