Rapper Diplomat, real name Fasasi Diplomat Noor, has a new song, ‘Icyuki Gikaze,’ dropped after two years of his previous song, 'Kalinga'.

The "Kure Yimbibi" hitmaker views musicians as both doctors and healers simultaneously. As for his future music, he believes inspiration is unpredictable, making it impossible to forecast themes or topics. He is open to creating songs about anything and aims to produce even better music than before.

Through his latest song, the singer's aim is to captivate his audience’s attention, delivering a thought-provoking message inside. He shared this strategic approach during an interview with The New Times.

What message do you aim to convey in your new song?

The whole idea of the theme was because the message in it hit current affairs globally. It was very on point. It’s been a year or so since we produced the song. My team advised me to release the song even though it was composed and recorded way back.

The title suggests themes love and romance. How do you navigate trendy affairs into your music while delivering deeper messages?

‘Icyuki Gikaze’ can be loosely translated to ‘Hot chick’, ‘Hot girl’ or something like that. When I was thinking of making a major comeback, I had to first analyse the market, see what’s trending, what’s up with music enthusiasts, youth, what I am supposed to do and where their attention is.

I realised that most of them are more interested in romantic songs and it's the music that is dominating nowadays. But I had a deep message to deliver and I had a task to penetrate and make a breakthrough.

That’s how I came up with a title that draws people's attention.

In your own opinion, do you think most artistes tend to shy away from difficult topics?

I think every musician has their own style of how they want to deliver and music is all about passion. Mine is more about philosophical, politics and history. This is my passion; we're not supposed to be the same.

The song addresses technology. How do you perceive the intersection of technology and humanity?

Technology is good and facilitates many things in our daily lives. But when you look at it, it seems like we're putting too much energy into making it dominate every aspect of life and that's going to be dangerous. We're approaching a level where jobs held by the masses are going to be done by robots. It will be a disaster if things are not carefully considered.

Your songs often contain prophetic elements. Do you believe in the power of music to foresee or influence future events?

I don't know how it happens but I have dozens of examples of what I've mentioned in my songs and it came to pass. I don't know where it comes from but it happens. Some musicians do it and I think it's a gift from God.
