Rwanda ladies national cricket team take on their Ugandan counterparts today in the opener of the 5th annual regional Genocide Memorial Cricket Tournament, which gets underway this morning and will run through June 10 at Gahanga Oval. 

Holders Kenya will be up against Uganda later today.

The hosts will then be back in action on morning, facing regional powerhouse Kenya before playing Uganda again later in the afternoon.

On Day 3 (Saturday) of the four-day tournament, Rwanda will again lock horns with Kenya in the morning before the later tussle it out with Uganda.

The format will be similar to what was witnessed last year, when all participating teams played each other on a round-robin basis, before the top two clashed in the final on Sunday.

The tournament is part of the memorial events organised by different sporting federations in honour of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Meanwhile, national ladies cricket team coach, Joshwa Mwanja, is optimistic his side will put up a strong showing and better performance than during previous editions.

"The other teams should expect quiet a big difference, a lot has changed in my team. The girls have prepared well for this year’s tournament,” Mwanja said. 

Rwanda has never won the tournament since its inaugural edition in 2013.
